A shocking case of human trafficking and child abuse has come to light in Malawi, where Zomba Police have rescued 18 underage girls who were trafficked and impregnated by a self-proclaimed prophet, Harrison Chatepa, popularly known as “Dadi One.”

The rescue operation was carried out by Zomba Police Station’s Community Policing Services Branch in conjunction with the Youth Network and Counselling (YONECO) at Donda Village, Traditional Authority Makwangwala in Ntcheu.

According to the police, the girls, aged between 11 and 16, were trafficked from various districts, including Mwanza, Neno, Thyolo, Balaka, and Blantyre. The police have revealed that 10 of the girls have given birth to babies, with the youngest being 7 months old.

The father of all the babies is alleged to be Prophet Chatepa, who claims to be the leader of the “Voice of One Calling Church.”

The police have arrested Prophet Chatepa, and he is expected to face charges related to human trafficking and child abuse. The rescued girls are currently receiving medical attention and counseling from YONECO.

This disturbing case has raised concerns about the exploitation and abuse of vulnerable children by individuals who claim to be religious leaders.

The police have urged the public to report any suspicious activities or cases of child abuse to the authorities.

“We are committed to protecting the rights and welfare of children in Malawi,” said a police spokesperson for Zomba. “We will do everything in our power to ensure that justice is served and that the victims receive the support and care they need.”

The case has also sparked outrage among child rights activists, who are calling for tougher laws and penalties for those who commit crimes against children.

“This is a wake-up call for all of us to take action and protect our children from exploitation and abuse,” said a YONECO executive member. “We need to work together to create a safe and secure environment for all children in Malawi.”

As the investigation continues, the police have assured that they will do everything in their power to ensure that justice is served and that the victims receive the support and care they need.

The case is a strong warning of the need for vigilance and action to protect vulnerable children from exploitation and abuse.
