Facts About Dr. Bakili Muluzi now exposed!!

  1. Dr .Bakili Muluzi was born on March 17th,1943 (81years now) at Kapoloma Village, Traditional Authority Kawinga in Machinga.
  2. He was born in the family of five children namely Cheloni Abiti Aironi (late), Bakili, Dickson( late), Esnarth and Friday.
  3. His father Chesalire Chiutula Muluzi was very adventurous man. His father joined Kings African Riffles (KAR) during second world war.
  4. His father travelled to a number of countries as soldier under command of the British and rise to the rank of corporal and died in 1981.
  5. His mother Chenalikusika Abiti Suman was just a house wife because she didn’t receive any formal education.
  6. Bakili Muluzi has seven children, two from first marriage to Annie Muluzi namely Austin Atupele, Esme Atuwen and five from second marriage to Patricia Muluzi lnamely Zake, Lucy, Tiyamike (as fraternal twins), Kaluchi and Edna.
  7. Muluzi is devoted Muslim.
  8. Muluzi went to Catholic Schools for basic education until he obtained the London school leaving certificate also known as General certificate of education (GCE). Later he obtained two Diplomas in Technical education. One from Thirsted Technical College in Denmark and the other from Huddersfield College of Education in UK.
  9. He become deputy principle of Nasawa technical college later principal of the same institution taking over from Danish Technical expert who was posted under DANIDA. He left Nasawa after his Nomination to Parliament in 1975 and he become member of Parliament for Machinga in 1975.
  10. First President of the Republic of Malawi formally Nyasaland, Dr Kamuzu Banda later promoted him to deputy minister for youth and sports.
  11. He was named Junior Minister for Youth and Culture in 1976. Later the same year, Muluzi was promoted to Minister of Education. He received the title Minister Without Portfolio in 1977, as well as Secretary General of the party.
  12. Muluzi held those posts through 1981. During this period, Muluzi became one of the most powerful individuals in Malawi, a member of Banda’s inner circle.
  13. He left government for the private sector shortly after this shift in his title. Muluzi resigned from the MCP out of fear for his life. He believed that his growing power within the party made him a likely target for Banda’s wrath.
  14. In the early 1990s, Muluzi felt prepared to reemerge as a force in national politics.
  15. In September 1993, Muluzi formed United Democratic Front (UDF). On May 17, 1994, Muluzi became second president with UDF capturing 1.2 million of the 3.7 million votes cast and he was the first president during the democratic era.
  16. The UDF and Chihana’s AFORD officially united as one party in July of 1995 in a deal that made Chihana the country’s second vice-president.
  17. He ruled the country from 1994 up to 2004. He succeeded by the late Prof Bingu Wa Mutharika who ruled from 2004 up to 2012.
