Mzuzu—based Msosa1 Foundation Films says it is set to release Season One of Crazy Baby Mamas series next month.
Msosa1 Foundation Films director, Willard Likwambe said this in an interview on Wednesday this week, adding people should expect to reap both entertainment and education.
“We are set to release the movie in April (next month) and the idea of coming up with this movie was to entertain and educate viewers. I just urge people to get prepared, to get entertained and educated at the same time,” he said.
The movie talks about poverty and marriage stress happening in different societies.
“It’s a story about a poor young man [Gowoka] who married a third wife just to escape suicidal thoughts due to mannerless women he has fallen in love with.
“Luckily, he finds himself a minister’s daughter [Ireen]. However, he didn’t know at first that she was a minister’s daughter. That’s the way he escaped the jaws of poverty,” said Likwambe.
He added: “On the other hand, the man in the movie (Gowoka) was a panel beater by profession. Later, he ended up working at one of the commercial banks in town where he was employed illegally with assistance from a certain woman who worked at the bank as brands manager. The relationship of the two started at a garage where the woman went for her car service.”
Meanwhile, Msosa1 Foundation Films has appealed for financial support from the corporate world to cater for logistics for shooting the movie.
“As of now, we are done with auditions for identifying actors and actresses. The script is ready. We are finalising costumes [designed by Base Africa, Chicha Fashions and Abishai] and other related materials,” said Likwambe.
He added: “Our challenge is on logistics and accommodation. Apart from here in Mzuzu, the movie will be shot in some other places in Nkhata Bay, Lilongwe, Blantyre, Makanjira in Mangochi and Salima as well as in Zanzibar; hence, asking the corporate world to come forward and support us.”
Likwambe who is the script writer of the movie, said any company or individual who will support the project will be recognised in the movie and the sponsorship will be a mutual benefit.
He said the movie which is suitable for people who are 16 years old and above, will be available on all streaming platforms like YouTube and others as well as both on local and international television stations.
The first season of Crazy Baby Mamas series which will have 10 episodes with a duration of 15-20 minutes, will be directed by Andrew Chawiga while Vincent Homage Mudolo is responsible for script and creative direction. Brenda Kalebe is the script coordinator.
The movie is stared by Sophie Mponda, Hajra Banks, Esther Bonyonga, Tumel Makanjira and Likwambe himself among others.
