Political activist Bon Kalindo, has appealed to opposition political parties to conduct transparent primary elections for the best candidates to win other than favoring pocket candidates to win saying this is a recipe for disaster.
Kalindo has observed that most of the primary elections political parties have conducted across the country have ended up with frustrations with others pointing fingers at those presiding over the elections as manipulating figures for their pocket candidates
.
He said the tendency of receiving money from candidates to influence the results of the elections, will force many of the losing candidates to stand independent on the 16th September, 2025 elections saying this is already dividing votes for the parties.
Speaking through an audio clip, Kalindo has again appealed to political parties to leave the electorate alone for them to choose the best candidates to represent them saying this is the only way of strengthening the party at the grass root level.
Kalindo has warned the DPP to tread carefully with the primary elections for Mangochi Central Constituency saying this is the constituency housing former President and DPP leader Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika.
He said there are reports that the District governor has fired constituency chairperson with days to the primary elections saying this alone is raising suspicion that something silly is going on in this constituency demanding senior DPP officials to open their eyes and address it before going out of hand.
The activist has lamented that the constituency chairperson has for long been keeping the party and all of a sudden been removed from his position, because there are primary elections, advising the party to intervene in this by letting the governor continue his work.
“This is not the time to be firing party leaders but to find incentives of strengthening the party in unity and cooperation,” said Kalindo.
He has asked the DPP suppose their preferred candidate loses the elections, who will they blame for to have contributed to this loss? Advising the party to sit down and correct where it is getting wrong for the best candidate to win.
