Suleman and Lipipa secure landslide wins in DPP primary elections in Blantyre

By Burnett Munthali

Sameer Suleman has emerged victorious in the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) primary elections held in Blantyre City South East Constituency.

Suleman defeated his opponent Wild Ndipo in a sweeping victory, securing 458 votes against Ndipo’s 17.

The wide margin of victory demonstrates the overwhelming support Suleman enjoys among DPP supporters in the area.

It also reflects a strong endorsement of his leadership and popularity within the grassroots structures of the party.

Meanwhile, in Blantyre City South Constituency, Noel Lipipa has also clinched a decisive win in the DPP primaries.

Lipipa defeated Bertha Masiku by a significant margin, garnering 671 votes against Masiku’s mere two.

This result reaffirms Lipipa’s influence and standing within the constituency, having previously served as Member of Parliament for the area.

Both victories underscore the confidence that local DPP members have in their candidates as the party prepares for the 2025 general elections.

The results were confirmed by Victor Musowa, who served as the election monitor during the primary elections in Blantyre District.

According to Musowa, the primary elections were conducted in a peaceful and orderly manner, with party structures overseeing the process.

He further stated that the primaries were a reflection of internal democracy at work within the DPP.

The landslide wins for Suleman and Lipipa are likely to strengthen the party’s campaign efforts in Blantyre ahead of the national polls.

These victories also send a clear message about the party’s strategy to retain or reclaim key urban constituencies.

As the DPP continues to rebuild its base and prepare for the upcoming elections, candidates like Suleman and Lipipa are expected to play pivotal roles in mobilizing support.

Their popularity on the ground could translate into stronger voter turnout and broader appeal across the region.

With the primaries concluded in these two key constituencies, the DPP can now focus on consolidating its structures and refining its manifesto.

Observers believe that if the party maintains transparency and unity throughout the selection process, it stands a strong chance of making gains in the 2025 elections.

In the meantime, Suleman and Lipipa’s candidacies are likely to energize the party’s supporters and set the tone for what could be a competitive election season.
