Political activist Bon Kalindo has praised Bishop Martin Mtumbuka of the Diocese of Karonga in the Roman Catholic Church for standing together with the people of Kasasire in Nkhatabay district whose lives are traumatized after being displaced by MDF soldiers.

Speaking in Mzuzu on Saturday, Bishop Mtumbuka described the treatment MDF soldiers gave the people of Ksasire as very cruel reminding the soldiers that nobody in this country including President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera is not above the law saying Malawians are not ruled by a military Junta.

Bishop Mtumbuka said Malawians are living in a democratically elected government which serves them and nobody is allowed to impose extra judicial punishment to anybody as evidenced with what happened with the people of Kasasire in Nkhatabay.

During the displacement of people of Kasasire, MDF soldiers were reported to have beaten the people, cutting down their banana plantations, destroying their houses with others arrested and sent to Mzuzu Prison on the claims that the place belongs to MDF for military trainings.

The CCAP Livingstonia Synod provided a place to accommodate the displaced people at a church and providing support to them, Bishop Martin Mtumbuka is on record as having gone to Kasasire to appreciate the sufferings of the people there.

In his speech, Bishop Mtumbuka advised MDF soldiers that if they are strong enough they should go to Goma in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to meet M23 rebels to test their power and not defenseless people of Kasasire in Nkhatabay district.

“Stop the act of being cruel to the people, soldiers are fighting in the DRC and if you are strong enough, go to Goma to meet M23 rebels,” said Bishop Mtumbuka.

Speaking through an audio clip, Political activist Bon Kalindo, has lamented that even the court in Mzuzu ruled in favor of the people of Kasasire that the land in question was a customary land, the people there are not free, they are still living in pain and sufferings.

Kalindo said those who were arrested and imprisoned at the Mzuzu Prison have not been released following the judgement delivered speaking for itself that the people of Kasasire are being looked after by a rotten government of the MCP.
