Mwai Ndalama ready to unite DPP Rivals after winning Nyungwe Primary Election

By Burnett Munthali

Mwai Ndalama, who emerged victorious in the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) primary elections for the Nyungwe constituency in Chiradzulu District, has expressed his willingness to work with those he defeated—if they are open to the idea.

He made the remarks during a meeting with local party leaders, which was part of the DPP’s broader effort to bring unity among its members following the primaries.

Ndalama emphasized the importance of collaboration and inclusivity, urging all stakeholders to come together for the benefit of the party and the people of Nyungwe.

He acknowledged that the primary election had seen different candidates backed by different camps, but stressed that now was the time to move forward as a unified front.

In support of this vision, DPP’s district governor for Chiradzulu, Ascot Chipoka, said he is considering convening a meeting with all the losing candidates.

Chipoka’s goal is to persuade them not to contest as independent candidates in the 2025 general elections.

Instead, he hopes they will rally behind Ndalama and work together to strengthen the DPP’s position in the constituency.

Among the candidates who competed in the primary elections were Renard Karonga, Alice Kazembe, Patrick Matola, and Mathews Ngwale.

Chipoka and Ndalama both believe that unity within the party is the key to securing victory in the forthcoming national elections.

As the DPP continues to reorganize ahead of 2025, Ndalama’s open-door approach and Chipoka’s reconciliatory efforts offer hope for a stronger and more cohesive campaign in Nyungwe.
