AFORD Candidate Withdraws from Mzuzu City South-East Parliamentary Race

Alliance for Democracy (AFORD) National Director of Resource Mobilization, Alfred Adam, has withdrawn from the Mzuzu City South-East parliamentary race, citing his failure to register as a voter.

Briefing the press, Adam denied rumours that his withdrawal was to endorse a certain independent candidate, warning that spreading malicious lies would result in legal action. He has since endorsed fellow AFORD member Dennis Mhone, the party’s regional governor, for the seat.

He explained that he missed the voter registration deadline due to a business trip and couldn’t register during the re-registration period since his National ID was registered before October 21, 2024, attributing his inability to register to the Malawi Electoral Commission’s (MEC) processes.

Commenting on Adams withdrawal, AFORD’s Director of Political Affairs, Ernest Kondowe, expressed confidence in winning the Mzuzu City South East parliamentary seat, stating the party is ready to campaign.
