As the saying goes, “Munda wakula, antchito achepa; Ndilipo Ambuye, munditume,” and indeed, Fr. Petro Chepesi answered the call to serve God.

Today, he is celebrating 28 years of priesthood, a journey filled with both successes and challenges.

For Fr. Chepesi, the road has not been smooth, but he remains committed to his calling as a servant of God.

One of the major successes in his journey has been the opportunity to meet people from all walks of life, something he treasures deeply.

He also successfully pursued a master’s degree in political science, proving his dedication not only to spiritual service but also to academic growth.

Reflecting on the challenges he has faced, Fr. Chepesi describes them as “water under the bridge,” emphasizing that they have shaped his understanding of life.

He explained that even Jesus Christ faced persecution despite doing good, and in a similar way, he too has faced trials that taught him important life lessons.

One moment that still weighs heavily on his heart is the loss of his mother in 2007, which occurred while he was celebrating his 10th anniversary in priesthood.

Despite the pain, he remains thankful to God for sustaining him, and grateful to his family members who have supported him over the years.

Over the past 28 years, Fr. Chepesi has served in numerous roles within the Catholic Church.

He has been Rector at St. Paul the Apostle Seminary, Father Superior at Padre Pio Parish (Katema), and Diocesan Chair for the Catholic Commission for Justice and Peace (CCJP), among others.

Fr. Chepesi was born into a family of seven children—five boys and two girls—and he is the last born.

He is currently teaching at Masongola Secondary School, continuing his mission to educate and guide the next generation.

As he marks this milestone, Fr. Chepesi’s story stands as a powerful testament to faith, perseverance, and service to God and humanity.
