Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) presidential candidate Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika arrived at the Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC) on Friday, 25 July 2025, to formally present his presidential nomination papers.
The event marked a significant milestone in Mutharika’s political comeback as he seeks to reclaim the country’s top leadership position in the upcoming September 2025 general elections.
Supporters of the DPP gathered in large numbers outside the BICC, waving party flags and singing songs in solidarity with their presidential candidate.
Professor Mutharika was accompanied by top officials of the DPP, including party vice presidents, members of parliament, and regional governors.
Upon arrival, he was welcomed by senior officials from the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC), who facilitated the nomination process in line with electoral regulations.
The submission of nomination papers is a mandatory requirement for all presidential aspirants as part of the formal vetting process by the Commission.
Professor Mutharika presented the necessary documentation, including the signatures of registered voters from across the country as required by the law.
After the successful submission, the MEC acknowledged receipt of the documents and confirmed that Mutharika had complied with all preliminary requirements.
Addressing the media after the presentation, Mutharika expressed confidence in his candidacy and affirmed his commitment to delivering transformative leadership if elected.
He stated that Malawians deserve better and pledged to restore economic stability, good governance, and the rule of law under a DPP-led administration.
The presentation of nomination papers also officially signaled the start of Mutharika’s campaign for the presidency, with expectations of countrywide rallies in the coming weeks.
With his papers now lodged, Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika is firmly in the race to lead Malawi once again, backed by a party eager to return to power.
