In a bold move to inspire a new era of leadership, United Democratic Front (UDF) leader Atupele Muluzi has called on Malawi’s youth to rise and take charge of the nation’s future. Speaking at the Bingu International Conference Centre (BICC) in Lilongwe, Muluzi officially submitted his nomination papers to the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC), signaling his intent to contest in the upcoming presidential elections.
Addressing supporters and media gathered at the venue, Muluzi emphasized that Malawi’s path to development depends on giving young, capable individuals a chance to lead.
“This is the time for young people to drive the agenda of this country,” Muluzi declared. “We cannot achieve meaningful development if we continue to ignore the energy, creativity, and vision of our youth.”
As part of his commitment to this vision, Muluzi announced Dr. Rex Kalolo as his running mate. Kalolo, a respected academic and professional, brings a wealth of experience from both the public and private sectors, having served in various governmental and non-governmental roles.
“Dr. Kalolo represents the future we are fighting for—educated, innovative, and deeply committed to national progress,” said Muluzi.
In a strong critique of the current state of governance, the UDF leader added, “Malawi is not a poor country, but the way we govern it is poor. With proper leadership and accountability, our nation has the potential to thrive.”
Muluzi also used the platform to address recent incidents of political violence that have marred the pre-election atmosphere. He condemned the acts and appealed for calm, urging authorities to act decisively.
“We want a peaceful election. I have faith that the Malawi Police Service will ensure a secure and stable environment where every citizen can vote freely,” he said.
With a new generation of leaders at the forefront and a message of peace and transformation, the UDF is aiming to re-establish itself as a force in Malawi’s political landscape. As the nation moves closer to the polls, all eyes will be on how Muluzi’s message of youth-driven change resonates with voters.
