Former President and Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) leader Peter Mutharika has hit back at what he calls biased media coverage, declaring himself fit and ready to reclaim power in the September 16 elections.
Speaking to thousands of supporters at Njamba in Blantyre, Mutharika revealed that his legal team has formally written to the Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA) over what he described as unfair treatment by the Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC).
“My lawyers wrote to MACRA but it has not responded,” said the 85-year-old opposition leader, who arrived at the rally in an open vehicle after a drive from the Chichiri shopping mall area.
Mutharika spoke for more than 40 minutes, dismissing concerns about his age and health, which have recently been the subject of ridicule by MBC and Malawi Congress Party (MCP) media outlets.
A recent poll placed Mutharika ahead of his rivals with 43% of the vote, fueling confidence among his supporters that he could make a comeback.
