Kabambe Pledges to Revive Malawi’s Kwacha Within Two Years

By Suleman Chitera

UTM Party leader Dalitso Kabambe has promised Malawians a swift economic turnaround if elected president, vowing to restore the strength of the kwacha within two years.

Kabambe made the pledge on Monday during campaign rallies in Kaphaizi, Kasungu District, where he addressed enthusiastic crowds as part of his ongoing nationwide tour ahead of the September 16 polls.

“If you elect me as the leader of this country on September 16, I will restore the strength of the kwacha so that it functions like it did during the time of the country’s first president, Kamuzu Banda,” said Kabambe.

The former Reserve Bank Governor argued that a stronger currency would lower the cost of essential goods, including fertilizer, and ease the financial burden on Malawians. “This is about making life affordable again for every household,” he said.

UTM spokesperson Felix Njawala echoed Kabambe’s sentiments, urging voters to rally behind their candidate. He described Kabambe as a “seasoned economic expert with the knowledge and capability to deliver on his vision for a prosperous Malawi.”

Kabambe’s tour in Kasungu also included visits to Chankhozi and Misozi primary schools, where he interacted with local communities and emphasized his commitment to improving education and social services.

The pledge to stabilize the kwacha comes as Malawi grapples with high inflation, rising prices, and economic uncertainty—issues likely to dominate the campaign trail as the September elections draw closer.
