Former President and now President-elect Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika has sent a strong warning to all individuals and groups who looted public resources during the previous administration, urging them to return what they stole before facing the full force of the law.
Speaking after his swearing-in ceremony at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre, Mutharika said his government will not tolerate corruption, theft, or abuse of public office. He emphasized that those who stole must start worrying, because the law will soon catch up with them.
“If you built houses, hotels, or any property using stolen government money, I advise you to quickly come forward and surrender it. Otherwise, the law will come for you,” warned Mutharika.
Mutharika added that his administration is determined to restore discipline, integrity, and accountability in the management of public finances. He said the new government’s top priority is to recover billions of kwacha that were allegedly stolen during the previous regime.
