The Super League of Malawi has secured a massive financial boost after entering into a five-year sponsorship agreement worth K5 billion with FDH Bank, a move expected to significantly uplift the country’s top-tier football.

Under the deal, effective from this season, the league will be rebranded as the FDH Bank Premiership, with the bank committing K1 billion annually to the competition. The sponsorship ranks among the most lucrative in Malawian sport and signals growing corporate confidence in domestic football.

The agreement comes with enhanced prize money aimed at strengthening competition and club sustainability. Champions of the league will now pocket K200 million, while runners-up will receive K100 million. The third-placed team will earn K75 million, a structure expected to intensify the title race and reward consistency throughout the season.

Football stakeholders believe the sponsorship will help clubs improve player welfare, attract and retain talent, and invest in better technical and administrative capacity. The increased funding is also expected to enhance match organisation and overall league professionalism.

FDH Bank replaces TNM, which has sponsored the league since 2007. TNM’s long-standing support is credited with sustaining and stabilising the competition for nearly two decades.

The Super League of Malawi (SULOM) says the partnership marks a new chapter for the league, positioning it for growth and increased commercial appeal.

As the new season approaches, expectations are high that the FDH Bank Premiership will deliver improved football quality, stronger competition, and renewed excitement for fans across the country.
