The nation is waiting calmly, attentively, but with justified urgency for the full truth regarding the tragic plane crash that claimed the life of Dr Saulos Chilima and others.
This is not an ordinary matter.
It is a national tragedy of the highest magnitude, and it demands a response grounded in credibility, independence, and unquestionable integrity.
From the very beginning, I Comrade Jumbe i have consistently called for a transparent and impartial investigation.
That position remains unchanged.
However, it must now be stated with clarity and seriousness:
the Malawi Congress Party, given the concerns and suspicions raised by the public, should not be involved in the commission of inquiry into this matter.
The principle at stake is simple and universally recognized: no institution or group that is perceived to be a subject of investigation should participate in overseeing or influencing that same investigation.
To do so risks undermining public confidence, regardless of the eventual findings.
This is not a matter of accusation alone; it is a matter of preserving the integrity and credibility of the entire process.
The people of Malawi are not seeking speculation or political contestation.
They are seeking clarity, truth, and closure.
The families of the deceased deserve a process they can trust.
The nation deserves findings that are beyond reproach.
For this reason, the composition of the commission must reflect independence and inclusivity.
Consideration should be given to representatives of the families of the deceased, independent experts, medical doctors activists and respected members of civil society, including religious leaders.
Such a structure would enhance credibility and ensure that the process is both transparent and accountable.
The investigation must be conducted in a manner that leaves no room for doubt, no perception of bias, and no unanswered questions.
Malawi deserves the truth. And that truth must be established through a process that is independent, credible, and beyond influence.
