The Malawi Government has announced a fresh investigation into the mysterious death of Allan Witika, whose lifeless body was discovered in his vehicle in Area 15, Lilongwe, in 2023—reviving a case that has long raised more questions than answers.

Minister of Homeland Security Peter Mukhitho confirmed in Parliament that authorities have resolved to reopen the case, citing serious concerns over how the initial investigation was handled.Kamangila reports Malondera, PAC to ACB on Amaryllis Hotel inquiry

The development follows pressure from Dedza Mlunduni Member of Parliament Moses Kunkuyu, who challenged the government to revisit unresolved cases that have left the public সন্দicious and dissatisfied. Among them, the Witika case stood out as a symbol of alleged systemic failure in delivering justice.

Previously, the courts acquitted the prime suspect, Lester Maganga, after ruling that the prosecution had failed to present sufficient evidence to secure a conviction. The decision effectively closed the case—until now.

But in a startling admission before lawmakers, Mukhitho revealed that the integrity of the investigation may have been compromised.Iran Signals Escalation with Strait of Hormuz Warning, Raising Global Alarm

“Evidence in this case was tampered with, and there was significant political interference,” Mukhitho told Parliament, signaling deep flaws in the earlier probe.

He emphasized that the government is now committed to ensuring a transparent and credible re-investigation, suggesting that new or previously overlooked evidence could be brought to light.

The reopening of the case is likely to reignite public debate over accountability, the independence of investigative institutions, and the influence of politics on the justice system in Malawi.

For the family of Allan Witika and many Malawians who followed the case closely, the government’s decision offers a renewed glimmer of hope—that the truth, long buried, may finally come to light.
