Bwalo la Chewa holds Zithetheke cultural show in Dowa

The popular “Mganda” by the Chewas started at Mkanthama in Dowa

Bwalo la Chewa Foundation [BOLA-CEFO] will on the New Year’s day 1st January, 2023 holds ‘’Zithetheke’’ Chewa cultural festival at Kanthepa lodge near Dzaleka Rfugee Camp in Dowa district to raise funds for the construction of the first ever Chewa Museum.
The Chewa festival has been organized to prove those that were thinking that the grouping has been dissolved as per the announcement of Paramount Dr. Lundu in various media outlets of the country wrong, that the grouping is alive and kicking.
The grouping has long-term plans of constructing a Chewa Cultural Centre in Dowa, a place was already identified and what it remains is raising funds for its construction project to start which when finish, it will be a tourist attraction centre stocking the Chewa history.
Dowa is a historical district of the Chewa from its headquarters at Mankhamba, the first translation of the Holy Bible from English to Chichewa was made at Kaso hill, the Chewas in Dowa welcomed the early missionaries Dutch Reformed Church Mission [DRCM ] at Mvera and not forgetting Mkanthama was the best dancer and no wonder Mkanthama, has the best Chewa Chisamba cultural group.
Bwalo la Chewa is inviting everyone who loves the Chewa cultural festival to a party ‘’Zithetheke’’ this will be a competition among the best Chewa traditional dances for one best with K500 only for entrance for one to be mesmerized with all the cultural activities.
According to the grouping’s National Executive Director Reverend Flywell Somanje, said the funds which will be realized from the show will be channeled to the construction of the Museum in Dowa district expressing hope that all the Chewas whether in Dowa or in other districts, will support the initiative of constructing the first ever Chewa Museum in Dowa.
Reverend Somanje said in each of the regions across the country, the Chewas will be holding a similar activity as done in Dowa with funds collected to go a long way to the Museum, encouraging well -wishers to contribute towards their initiative for a Museum.
….’’ 14 million of the country’s population is the Chewas, if each Chewa contributes K20 to the Museum, we are expecting that the Museum can finish its construction project within a year,’’….he said.
He said Bwalo la Chewa Foundation will continue implement its vision of uniting all the Chewas in Malawi under one banner Malawi Chewa heritage saying many Chewas are in support of this, saying this will be the voice of all the Chewas in Malawi.
