In a remarkable display of compassion and community development, Step 30 International Ministries has drilled a solar-powered borehole in Chingala Village, Lilongwe District, bringing safe and clean water to the doorstep of residents.

“This is a dream come true,” says Mrs Phiri, a grateful beneficiary. “We used to walk long distances to fetch water, often sharing it with animals. Now, we have clean water at our fingertips, and our children are no longer suffering from diarrhoea and other waterborne diseases.”

The borehole, funded by Step 30 International Ministries, a Korean-based organisation, is a testament to the power of collaboration and community-driven development. “We are thrilled to have made a difference in the lives of these people,” says Bishop Harvey Chabingah, founder of Christ Mandate for Jesus Missions.

The community is not only using the water for drinking but also for irrigation, establishing vegetable gardens that will improve food security and income. “This is a game-changer for us,” says Mrs Phiri. “We can now feed our families and even sell some produce to support our livelihoods.”

Step 30 International Ministries Country Director, Robert Doko, urges the community to take good care of the borehole, emphasising its importance for their future. “This is your facility, use it wisely and sustainably,” he says.

Christ Mandate Church, which operates in several districts in Malawi and Mozambique, is committed to supporting vulnerable communities through various humanitarian initiatives.

The solar-powered borehole, complete with a 2,000-litre storage tank and taps, was constructed at a cost of K10 million.

Three Die, Over 7,200 Households Affected as Floods Ravage 13 Districts

By Staff Reporter

At least three people have died and more than 7,200 households have been affected following severe flooding triggered by persistent heavy rains across Malawi, the Department of Disaster Management Affairs has confirmed.

Department of Disaster Management Affairs (DODMA) said the floods were caused by intense rainfall experienced between December 22 and December 28, 2025, resulting in widespread destruction in 13 districts.

According to a situation report released by DODMA, a total of 7,205 households have been impacted, while 41 people sustained injuries during the flooding incidents. The affected districts are Blantyre, Chikwawa, Chitipa, Dedza, Dowa, Kasungu, Lilongwe, Mulanje, Nkhata Bay, Nkhotakota, Nsanje and Salima.

The floods have submerged homes, destroyed property and displaced thousands of families, particularly those living in low-lying areas and along major rivers. Some communities were cut off after roads and bridges were washed away, complicating rescue and relief efforts.

DODMA has since launched emergency response operations, including the distribution of relief items such as food and blankets to affected households. The department has also initiated evacuation exercises in high-risk areas, particularly in Nkhotakota and Nsanje districts, where water levels remain dangerously high.

Authorities have warned that continued rainfall could worsen the situation and have urged communities in flood-prone areas to remain alert and cooperate with evacuation teams when advised to move to safer locations.

DODMA says it is working with district councils and humanitarian partners to assess the full extent of the damage and mobilise additional assistance for affected families as the country continues to experience the rainy season.

Concerned citizen calls Mutharika to release women of Kachere prison

By Vincent Gunde

A concerned citizen of Malawi Mrs. Elizabeth Kaliza Banda of Area 51 in Lilongwe, has appealed to President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika and the First Lady Madam Getrude Mutharika to release women who are serving jail terms at Kachere prison in Lilongwe for the offence of fetching firewood in a government forestry protected area.

Kaliza Banda said following the video clip in circulation where a woman is speaking deeply concerned to see these women with their babies in a prison fence appealing to all to share her message to reach out all those who can assist, she has thought of sharing her message to the First citizen of the country.

She said these women at Kachere prison are serving prison sentences so too, their babies saying what is heartbreaking is that these women have left other children at home without care and no one is looking after them and their children are lacking motherly love.

Speaking through a video clip which is circulating in various special media platforms, the woman said she was deeply touched to see women with their babies at Kachere prison observing that the charges warranting them to land in prison, are heart breaking to narrate.

The woman has claimed that there are people who have committed criminal charges but because they have connections with politicians in government are left scot-free and they are untouchable wondering why the court has jailed these women for committing minor offences.

“I am voicing out my concern on behalf of them that they must be released in the name of God, they are not deserving to be in prison,” she said.

Kaliza Banda has urged individuals, well-wishers and organizations to help these women with babies to walk to freedom so that they take care and support other children they left in their respective homes before they were arrested, prosecuted, and serving prison sentences.

She has appealed to court judges on a special note to wear human faces in the same way they did to MCP panga wielding thugs that beside overwhelming evidence of terrorizing and hacking innocent people in Lilongwe and surrounding places, they were granted bail and they are at home together with their families.

The concerned citizen said the jailed women with babies did not commit criminal activities but fetching firewood to support their families saying this does not demand presidential pardon but judges to order for their release.

She has finally requested the First citizens to listen to the video clip in circulation appealing to all those that have the contacts of the First citizens to share the video clip to them expressing hope that after listening to the clip, they will do something good to the women.

Political activist Bon Kalindo said he would have loved if President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika will pardon many prisoners who committed minor offences for real criminal suspects who are enjoying bread and tea outside prison to enter prison corridors.

“Preliminary investigations indicate that the truck was on the wrong side of the road while attempting to overtake a broken-down vehicle, leading to a head-on collision with the oncoming bus,” Banda said.

She added that Nakamba, a student at the Malawi University of Science and Technology (MUST), and Chawinga sustained severe head injuries and were pronounced dead upon arrival at Mzimba District Hospital.
Another passenger, Ester Bennet, sustained head injuries and is currently receiving medical attention, while 16 other passengers suffered minor injuries and were treated as out-patients.

The National Bank of Malawi (NBM) has reaffirmed its commitment to improving community health services after donating medical equipment worth K20 million to Area 25 Community Health Centre in Lilongwe.

The donation, which includes wheelchairs, hospital beds, mattresses, blood pressure machines, lockable cabinets, and surgical kits, among other critical items, is aimed at strengthening service delivery at one of the city’s busiest public health facilities.

Speaking during the handover ceremony on Friday, NBM Kanengo Service Centre Team Leader, Steve Chimbalu Thunduwatha, said the bank responded directly to the health centre’s most urgent needs as part of its corporate social responsibility agenda.

“As a responsible corporate citizen, NBM is committed to supporting initiatives that improve the wellbeing of Malawians. This donation was carefully selected to address the most pressing challenges faced by Area 25 Community Health Centre, particularly in maternal and neonatal care,” said Thunduwatha.

He added that NBM believes access to quality healthcare is key to national development and pledged the bank’s continued support to community-focused interventions.

Receiving the donation, Area 25 Community Health Centre Matron, Modestar Nyando, hailed NBM for the timely support, noting that the facility handles an average of about 750 childbirth deliveries every month, placing enormous pressure on available resources.

“This equipment will significantly improve our capacity to provide quality maternal and neonatal services. With the high number of deliveries we record monthly, such support is not just welcome but critical,” said Nyando.

She further emphasized that the donated equipment will help enhance patient safety, reduce congestion, and improve working conditions for healthcare workers.

The donation has been widely welcomed by the local community, with health officials describing it as a major boost to efforts aimed at reducing maternal and neonatal complications.

NBM’s gesture underscores the growing role of the private sector in complementing government efforts to strengthen Malawi’s healthcare system, particularly at community level where demand for services continues to rise.

X-Ray Machines Vanish at Chiradzulu Hospital

By Suleman Chitera

Chiradzulu District Hospital has been hit by a shocking theft after two X-ray machines mysteriously disappeared — a development now raising serious questions about internal security at the facility.

District Police Officer-in-Charge, Henry Kalungu, has confirmed the incident, revealing that the report reached police much later than expected, despite indications that the machines had gone missing earlier. The delay, he said, stemmed from internal disagreements at the hospital.

In a dramatic twist, the prime suspect — Yamikani Mapapa, an employee in the hospital’s X-ray department — allegedly attempted to take his own life by consuming poison shortly after the matter came to light. He survived and is currently receiving medical care.

Police say they are now waiting for the suspect to fully recover so they can proceed with formal questioning and push the investigation forward.

Authorities are treating the case as a major internal breach, with expectations that more details will emerge in the coming days.

Limpopo FM warns all against BMTV that they will be exposed

By Vincent Gunde

Limpopo FM online radio station has warned all those against Bakili Muluzi TV that the radio will expose them in “Name and Shame” programme saying that day is coming, the whole nation will learn of the people not wishing President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika well.

The radio said Bakili Muluzi TV was on the run and he was hiding in the bush from arrests by Malawi Police for speaking nothing but the truth that Malawians are suffering under President Chakwera and his MCP and that they have no hope for a better tomorrow.

Comrade Ntanyiwa has asked all those that are claiming to be Bakili Muluzi TV today where were they when the Malawi Government through the police put aside K48 million sending police Detectives to South Africa to be hunting for Bakili Muluzi TV and Comrade Ntanyiwa?

He has advised all those that are claiming to be Bakili Muluzi TV to use their own journalistic skills than someone’s skills to get favors from politicians that they are doing a good job while they are thieves stealing someone’s talent for their own benefit.

“Let these people prove to Malawians that they are indeed Bakili Muluzi TV, we will expose all of your lies, don’t be deceiving people that you are Bakili Muluzi TV,” said Comrade Ntanyiwa.

He has advised all those claiming to be Bakili Muluzi TV to find other means of deceiving DPP politicians assuring them that the war they have started will not come to an end, they will fall down claiming that others tried before but they failed.

Comrade Ntanyiwa has appealed to the law makers to change the retirement age of Judges from 70 years back to 65 years claiming that President Chakwera had a special interest with the judges to favor him through court cases.

He said with the way how the justice system has reached in Malawi where the courts are being seen corrupt and compromise, there is need to change the retirement age of Judges back to 65 years for new judges to find their way in.

A concerned citizen of Malawi Mrs. Elizabeth Kaliza Banda has concurred with Comrade Ntanyiwa that the retirement age for judges be at 65 years saying the whole judicial system need to go back to factory setting as in 1964 to start a fresh.

Kaliza Banda said with evidence on the table that MCP panga wielding thugs were hacking and terrorizing innocent people, to find a judge issuing an injunction stopping the police from re arresting these MCP thugs, has spoken a lot that some court judges are for the MCP.

She has advised the DPP to put the Judiciary to order by giving those Judges who are for the MCP other jobs and replace them with judges who have been seen to be working for delivering justice without money.

“The Malawi court have been proved that justice is only bought with money and to those who do not have money, they will be send to prison,” said Kaliza.

Airtel Malawi Donates MK300 Million to Boost National Relief Food Efforts

By Suleman Chitera

Airtel Malawi plc has bolstered government relief efforts with a MK300 million donation aimed at supporting communities affected by the current food crisis.

The contribution comes in response to President Peter Mutharika’s declaration of a State of Disaster, following severe food shortages impacting millions of Malawians.

Speaking during the handover ceremony in Lilongwe, Airtel Malawi Managing Director Aashish Dutt said the company remains committed to assisting Malawians in times of need. He emphasized that Airtel is more than a mobile service provider, describing it as a “responsible corporate entity dedicated to supporting national development and humanitarian efforts.”

Dutt encouraged other private sector players to partner with government in providing relief to those facing acute food insecurity, stressing that collective action is crucial at this critical time.

Minister of Finance, Economic Planning and Decentralisation Joseph Mwanamvekha commended Airtel Malawi for the timely donation, noting that government is in the process of procuring 200,000 metric tonnes of relief food. The food is expected to reach about 4 million people across all districts.

Mwanamvekha also assured the public that his ministry has put in place strong transparency and accountability measures to ensure all resources are properly managed and used solely for their intended purpose.

With Airtel Malawi’s support, the government has now raised MK1.7 billion from private sector contributions, as the national response continues to gather momentum.

The donation is expected to significantly strengthen relief operations as the country works to cushion vulnerable communities from the worsening food situation.
