The 2022 FDH Bank Cup quarter-finals and semifinal draw have been conducted today at the Football Association of Malawi (FAM) Head Offices in Chiwembe. Quarterfinals Changalume Barracks Vs Extreme FCNyasa Big Bullets Reserves Vs Blue EaglesMighty Mukuru wanderers Vs Kamuzu BarracksChitipa United Vs Nyasa Big Bullets Semifinals Winner between Nyasa Big Bullets Reserve and Blue Eagles will face the winner between Changalume Barracks and Extreme FC.Winner between Chitipa United and Nyasa Big Big Bullets will play the winner between Mighty Wanderers and Kamuzu Barracks. According to FAM's director of competitions, Gomezgani Zakazaka, quarterfinal stages will be played between the 20th and 21st of August.

BULLETS TO CLASH WITH SIMBA SC IN CHAMPIONS LEAGUE

Nyasa Big Bullets will face Tanzania side Simba Sporting Club in the preliminary round of the CAF Champions League. The draw conducted today sees Bullets starting at home on September 9 before a return leg in Tanzania a week later. The TNM super league defending champions were booted out by Amazulu FC of South Africa in the pre-liminary round during the previous edition. The winner between the two sides will face the winner between Zambia's Red Arrows and Angola's Premiro Agosto on the weekend of 7 to 9 October with the second leg being played from 14 to 16 Same month. The encounter will see NBB playing out against their former midfielder's club. Peter Banda is currently one of the key players for Simba SC.

FAM welcomes history of Malawi football book

Football Association of Malawi (FAM) has welcomed a history of Malawi football book authored by United Kingdom based Mario Antione. The book which is set to be launched on Tuesday next week is the only comprehensive book to date that has documented the country’s football history from pre-colonial period to post independence period. FAM president Walter Nyamilandu applauded Antione for the book, saying it will help preserve history of the sport for future generations. The Head of Technical Panel for Flames, Mario Marian Marinica has excluded Civil Service United goalkeeper Ernest Kakhobwe,Wanderers attacking midfielder Yamikani Chester in his 28-man provisional squad that he released yesterday. The two have been called for National team duty since their debut but their current performance has not been good. Kakhobwe has started the majority of Civil's games this season but his performance has been questionable while Chester's performance at his Club, Wanderers has not been good as he is yet to score in over 13 games that he had played this season. Malawians living in the Republic of South Africa celebrated Malawi's independence in style with a sports open day at Turffontein with two separate events at Dalmatian. This was followed by the finals of Mukuru men's and women's tournaments at Turffontein Sports Ground in Johannesburg. The netball and football games were sponsored by Mukuru. Malawi's Deputy High Commissioner to South Africa, Panji Chirwa, commended Mukuru for sponsoring the tournament and urged Malawians in the diaspora to unite and support the development of Malawi. Dedza Dynamos will now be called Dedza Salima Sugar Football Club following a 48 - million kwacha worth 9 month deal with the company. Salima Sugar Company Secretary Dr. Charles Thupi revealed this at their Lilongwe premises on Friday and says this is part of promoting Malawi football. Furthermore, the club shall have jerseys that will bear the company's logo on the chest. Dedza Dynamos Secretary General, Mavuto Mugode, says they are grateful and promises improved performance in the Super League. A new stadium in Mponela Dowa is set to spur the development of football at the grassroots level. Msaiwale Kavina, the owner of a 20, 000 capacity Champions Stadium in Mponela Dowa, said the facility is expected to start hosting major football games once completed. "Some of the districts in the country like Dedza, Nkhotakota, Balaka, and Mulanje have their standard football pitches that draw major football games. Dowa is different. It does not have such a facility. This is a game-changer and will be a positive step in the development of football," said Kavina. He added that the facility complements government efforts of creating jobs as well as provides a platform for the promotion of other sporting disciplines such as Boxing and Netball.
