Cancer Survivors Quest Executive Director, Chikhulupiliro Ng’ombe is optimistic that the opening of the International Blantyre Cancer Centre in Blantyre will go a long way in the country’s fight against the disease.

Ng’ombe stresses the country can only win the battle against the diseases if it focuses on such projects for people to easily access cancer treatment within the country.
Currently, the country’s health system offers only chemotherapy with the government reportedly facing over K1.7 billion bill annually for international referrals of cancer patients who need radiotherapy.
Earlier, health rights activists Maziko Matemba said there are over 500 patients annually on the patients’ referral list, most of whom are cancer patients.
Meanwhile, Health Minister, Khumbize Kandodo Chiponda indicated that the much awaited National Cancer Center in Lilongwe would be ready this month.
