National Short Term for Frankfurt School of Finance and Management has encouraged women in agribusiness to be innovative to achieve financial independence.
The institution’s local expert, Wangiwe Kambuzi said this in Mzuzu during a press briefing with First Capital Bank and Ecobank to shade more light on the Mzuzu edition of boosting women in agriculture pitch night scheduled for 15th June.
“Women are supposed to have access to land which can be used for agribusiness activities, and this can help to empower our country economically, ” Kambuzi said.
Commenting on the initiative, Branch Manager for First Capital Bank in Mzuzu, Wongani Msowoya noted that most women in the country lag behind economically, hence the need to offer them more opportunities.
The initiative is part of the 25 million Euros in agricultural financing facility managed by First Capital Bank and Ecobank. It is backed by the European Union and European Investment Bank as one way of supporting sustainable commercialization of smallholder farmers across Malawi and Southern Africa.
Selected female led agribusinesses will be given an opportunity to present their business cases and the winner will be given a chance to obtain a loan of up to K100 million.
