Ekwendeni Hammers Football Club on Sunday defeated MAFCO FC by 1-0 at Mzuzu Stadium to register their first win in the 2023/2024 Super League season.
The highly physical match, watched by a handful soccer lovers, ended up with Mphatso Magaleta scoring the only goal in the 55th minute from the penalty spot after MAFCO’s captain Paul Ndhlovu handled the ball in the penalty box.
Ekwendeni collected their first three points of the season, a development their head coach, Elias Chirambo, said will boost the morale of his charges, adding they hope to continue collecting maximum points.
Speaking in a separate interview, caretaker coach for MAFCO, Jimmy Mzunga, alleged that the officiating team was favouring the home side, questioning the penalty given to Ekwendeni.
Veteran defender and Ekwendeni Hammers captain, Harry ‘Atsogo’ Nyirenda, was voted Man of the Match.
