Nomads Lose Patience With SULOM

BY DRAXON MALOYA

The Mighty Mukuru Wanderers, aka the Nomads have expressed displeasure with the Super League of Malawi (SULOM) for failure to provide security to their Executive Board of Trustees directors after the Annual General Meeting on Saturday in Lilongwe.

Wanderers Board of Trustee members namely; Limbani Magomero, Christopher Gondwe and David Kanyenda successfully led the delegates in thwarting proposals that would have circumvented the League’s constitutional order in filling vacant positions in the executive committee.

But their victory came at a cost, after working tirelessly to uphold the League’s integrity and fairness the Nomads faced threats and intimidation from unknown sources.

In a strong letter written to the League governing body, Wanderers officials were outraged at the lack of security provided to the delegates, who in the aftermath of the AGM at Lilongwe Hotel seem to have risked everything to ensure the League’s transparency and accountability.

Determined to stand up for their fellow members, the Wanderers decided to take action by writing a scathing letter blasting the SULOM for failure to provide adequate security to the delegates.

In the letter signed by the the Board Secretary, Chances Gondwe they called out the League for putting their members at risk and failing to uphold their duty to protect those who had sacrificed so much for the betterment of the elite national soccer league.

“Unruly elements that manifested in the immediate aftermath of the Super League of Malawi’s Annual General Meeting were intended to create a climate of fear among delegates and gag them from freely expressing their opinions during such meetings,” reads part of the letter.

The letter further stated that such barbaric manner conduct cannot be condoned in strongest terms while demanding that the League governing body give a guarantee of non-repetition of the behaviour accompanied against and proceed to take a decisive action to uproot the primitive tendencies.

“Our David Kanyenda was subjected to a harrogate of verbal abuse, harassment and vicious insults by those who were loitering in close proximity to the conference auditorium. Kanyenda was threatened with violence on account of the contribution he made during the AGM,” reads another part of the letter.

Despite the letter quickly gaining traction in the football community with other teams and soccer enthusiasts expressing their solidarity with Wanderers, the Super League of Malawi has decided to remain mute on the matter.

Both, SULOM’s General Secretary, Williams Banda and his vice, Donnex Chonga have just shelved our questionnaire they gave an assurance to respond to within specified logical period of time.

Although the Wanderers officials sounded somehow proud of their victory in defending the League’s constitutional order, they knew that their fight was far from over hence writing a strong warning while remaining vigilant in holding the League accountable and ensuring that all members were treated with respect and dignity.
