Malawi’s Forgotten Legend in Tears
Fellow Malawians, my heart is heavy, my spirit broken. A disturbing message has been circulating on social media — a picture of our music legend Sir Paul Banda in tears, pleading for help to travel abroad for medical treatment and cover his expenses.
This is not the first time well-wishers are being asked to dig into their already empty pockets to rescue this man. But we must ask ourselves: is this the Malawi we want? Is this truly the reward we give to our national heroes?

Government’s Shameful Neglect
My message today is directed to the government of President Lazarus Chakwera. Why this cruelty? Why this lack of compassion?Mutharika dismisses claims of leaving office after one month
Sir Paul Banda dedicated his entire life to motivating, inspiring, and entertaining Malawians. Yet, he is being left to suffer silently. Government officials sit comfortably in their air-conditioned offices while the man who lifted the nation’s soul through music is left to beg for help.
Are you waiting for him to die, so that you can flock to his funeral with crocodile tears and empty tributes?
Who Is Sir Paul Banda?
Let us remind ourselves: Sir Paul Banda is not an ordinary citizen. He is a national treasure — one of Malawi’s greatest musicians, producers, and mentors.
For decades, he carried the Malawian spirit through his voice, guitar, and timeless songs.
He trained countless musicians, built the careers of many artists, and motivated the youth.
He gave Malawi international recognition in the arts when politics was failing us.
His contribution to this country is far greater than empty political speeches, broken promises, or the corruption that drains public resources.
A Call to Action: Save Sir Paul Banda
It is shameful that today, a man of such stature is being left to suffer. This is the duty of government. This is the responsibility of leadership.
We cannot continue abandoning the very people who built this nation’s soul. Allowing Sir Paul Banda to perish in humiliation would be a national disgrace.
President Chakwera, Hear This Message
Mr. President, stop wasting billions on luxuries and political campaigns. Stop looting money meant for Malawians. Instead, use those resources to help Sir Paul Banda get the treatment and dignity he deserves.
The eyes of Malawians are watching. The spirit of the nation is crying. When you abandon your legends, you kill the very soul of your country.
Final Word
Sir Paul Banda gave his life to lifting Malawi’s spirit. Now it is time for Malawi to lift him. He deserves respect, medical care, and honour — not neglect, suffering, and humiliation.
If Malawi truly values its history, its music, and its heroes, let us act now to save Sir Paul Banda.
