The Human Rights Consultative Committee (HRCC) has sued President Lazarus Chakwera and Speaker of the National Assembly Catherine Gotani Hara for deliberation, passing and assenting of the amended Corrupt Practices Act (CPA). Court documents we have seen indicate that the speaker is being sued for allowing the National Assembly to deliberate on the bill which was inconsistent with Section 99 of the Constitution while the president is being sued for assenting to the Act in question. Lawyer representing HRCC George Jivason Kadzipatike confirmed filing an application for leave for judicial review before the High Court in Lilongwe. Speaker of the National Assembly Catherine Gotani Hara has ordered Member of Parliament for Mzimba North Yeremiah Chihana to bring evidence to the house on allegations he made that government has stolen K30 billion meant for the Affordable Inputs Programme. Chihana in his contribution to the statement issued by Minister of Agriculture, Sam Kawale, alleged that government should account for the missing K30 billion that was stolen to ensure beneficiaries of the programme access the inputs as planned. Parliament today has adjourned early following concerns over lack of water supply which has affected hygiene and sanitation at the Parliament Building in Lilongwe. The matter was raised by Dedza South East legislator Ishmael Onani who also moved a motion to waive all standing orders and adjourn the house early on health concerns. "Madam Speaker, there is no water in the whole building as such the toilets are stinking and considering issues of Covid-19 which require hygiene, I beg to move that we adjourn early and resume when water supply resumes," he said. Nankhumwa’s Cabinet dissolved ◼️Speaker of the National Assembly Catherine Gotani Hara has finally acted on an injunction obtained Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Member of Parliament for Machinga Shadreck Namalomba against shadow Cabinet appointed by leader of opposition Kondwani Nankhumwa. Nankhumwa’s Shadow Cabinet led to the change of sitting plan in the chamber which saw Namalomba being moved from seat number 25 to 100.This did not please Namalomba who went to court last week to obtain an injunction on the matter.
