By Suleman Chitera Mar23,2022

Jenda market vendors have given the Mmbelwa district council 7 days to officially reinstate the old market committee or face another boycott in the payment of market fees.

One of the vendors Gresham Zimba told us Wednesday that since the high court in Mzuzu dismissed an application by the council to restrain them from conducting duties the council has not complied with the ruling and is yet to officially reinstate the old committee.

District Commissioner for the Mmbelwa district council Rodney Simwaka said he is not aware about the vendors ultimatum but said he is ready to discuss the matter with them .

The Mmbelwa district council has lost over 30 million kwacha revenue since the vendors started boycotting the payment of market fees in July last year after accusing the council of illegally electing a new market committee when the term of the old one had not expired
