Police Raid PIJ Office, Confiscate Computers And Phones

The police visited Platform for Investigative Journalism (PIJ) offices in Blantyre where they confiscated computers and phones.

PIJ is under the leadership of Gregory Gondwe and reports suggest he was also picked by the police.

According to a Facebook post from PIJ’s Golden Matonga, the police allegedly wanted the publication to disclose the source of a document they used in one of their stories.

” My colleague and PIJ Director Vitus-Gregory Gondwe was subsequently placed under arrest or detention by the police officers who have also seized computers and phones. I am unable to reach or locate the whereabouts of Gregory and currently unaware of his legal status.” Said Matonga.

PIJ, which was launched in 2019, has in recent times been carrying out series of investigative pieces on corruption and is registered as a media non-governmental organization under the Companies Act.
