Two political analysts have interpreted differently to two proverbs that vice president Saulos Chilima said yesterday on his arrival from America.

Chilima told his followers that “okazinga soya sadikira mbuliuli” [a person frying soy beans does not expect pops] and that “munthu wa mzeru saotcha tchire lozungulira nyumba ngati alibe chimbudzi” [a wise person does not burn bush surrounding his house when they do not have a toilet].

Livingstonia University based analyst, George Phiri, thinks that Chilima was saying that if people entrusted a person to solve their problems, and he doesn’t, then their hope is in vain.

He adds that now that people’s hope is in vain, they should build their hope in the bush, meaning among the leaders, there is one like the bush who will solve their problems in absence of the toilet.

Another analyst, Wonderful Mkhutche, thinks the vice president was telling UTM followers to be patient and vigilant, and to Tonse Alliance partners to work according to the partnership agreement.
