The government and private sector are being inspired to invest in the local film industry in order for the sector to contribute to the country’s economy.
It follows a recent European Film Festival that provided a screening platform for 16 films produced in 20 different countries.
Here in Malawi, the screenings took place in the cities of Blantyre and Lilongwe, where the local film industry was also given chance to beam its short films.
Film Association of Malawi’s President, Gift Sukali, has since cited lack of funds as a major setback to the industry.
On his part, EU Ambassador to Malawi Rune Skinnebach has affirmed the bloc’s commitment to developing the local creative industry.
