Traffic police officers will now have to be accompanied by an armed police officer when operating, it has been advised.
This is contained in a circular and is coming at a time when there has been a spate of attacks on traffic police officers during enforcement of road regulations.
“Make sure you are accompanied by an armed police officer or have someone within the team to carry a riffle when going for traffic checks, no team should be found without a firearm,” reads the communique signed by D Kawaye, Officer In Charge Service Traffic and Transport.
MFN understands that the decision is aimed at ensuring security for the traffic officers.
