People around Geisha and Chipambo locations in Mzuzu have expressed dismay over allegations that the Northern Region Water Board (NRWB) mismanaged over K1 billion under the Water Efficiency Project.
The project sought to improve the quality of water supply and sanitation in the areas.
Currently, representatives of the communities have gathered at Mzuzu City Council waiting for the Chief Executive Officer for the Board to release the document they used to solicit funds from European Investment Bank meant to improve water supply and sanitation services in the area.
Chairperson of Grievance Redress Committee for Chipambo and Geisha communities, Lessie Mauluka, said they are ready to spend a night at Mzuzu City Council offices today until the whole report of the project is released by the NRWB.

Mauluka further said some people who were affected by the project were not compensated and others were given peanuts, a development that has raised a lot of questions.
Efforts by MBC to contact NRWB officials seeking their reaction to the allegations proved futile as their phones went unanswered.
