Engineers are currently making a feasibility study to make a final decision on plans to move the Chapananga bridge upstream to avoid year in year out wash aways.
Minister of Transport and Public Works, Jacob Hara, suspects there was political interference on engineers, made to bow down to the wishes of politicians to construct the bridge at unsuitable site, making the bridge prone to disasters.
He was making a ministerial statement in Parliament on the state of roads in the country.
“What is important is to construct another bridge up steam, or should we continue to spend millions each year rehabilitating the bridge after the rains,” he asked.
Currently, the bridge is almost impassable after it was partly washed away.
