Minister of Trade and Industry Mark Katsonga Phiri, hosted High Commissioners for Zambia and Mozambique on Thursday.
Top on the agenda was the simplification and harmonisation of trade protocols.
Speaking during the ceremony, Zambian Ambassador to Malawi, Panji Kaunda, said the time is ripe for the two countries to join hands in making sure that people from Malawi and Zambia especially the small business operators are also benefitting from cross-border trade.
In his remarks, Minister of Trade and Industry, Mark Katsonga Phiri, concurred with Kaunda saying that the transportation of goods between the two countries must be seamless.
“It is pleasing that Parliament passed the One Stop Border Post Bill and we are within the 21 days for the President to ascent and after a month it is going to be gazetted and operationalised,” said Katsonga.
In his discussion after meeting with the Mozambican High Commissioner to Malawi, Elias Zimba, Katsonga assured the minister that when it comes to trade, his country is ready to cooperate with the two countries.
The minister further commended the ambassador for his commitment to ensuring that non-tariff barriers experienced by cross-border traders are removed for a smooth flow of business between the two nations.
