MTL employees have decided to down tools over management’s failure to provide a salary increment for the last seven years.
According to some of the employees at MTL Blantyre office, the strike comes after failing to get satisfactory responses from their Union which has been engaging management on the matter for a long time.
In an interview MTL Workers Union president Rodney Shonga confirmed that indeed employees have decided to withdraw labour but said the action was not sanctioned by the Union.
“I can confirm that we have been engaging management on salary increment but management has not been responsive. We last met them on Friday but again we did not get a favourable response. So, today we decided to inform our membership in all our offices and they decided to withdraw labour. But as a union we are working on the way forward and we will advise the members of what to do after following all necessary procedures” said Shonga.
