President Dr Lazarus Chakwera says migrating Malawi to a middle-income economy demands the adoption of farming as a wealth creation enterprise.
Dr Chakwera made the remarks in Lilongwe during the graduation ceremony of the Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR).
The Malawi leader said the government is investing in the university to ensure the country’s natural resources are managed and leveraged by skilled people.
He has since announced plans by the government to construct a state-of-the-art resource centre at the LUANAR Campus in 2023.
Dr Chakwera said the resource centre will have incubation hubs, state-of-the-art laboratories and food processing equipment and all this will be done with support from the World Bank.
This year’s congregation of LUANAR marks 10 years since it was de-linked from the University of Malawi in 2012.
