A 34 year old woman has died in Ntcheu while three children have sustained injuries after being struck by lightening on Thursday afternoon at Zakutchire Village in Traditional Authority Kwataine in the District
Ntcheu Police spokesperson Rabecca Ndiwate says the deceased has been identified as Fatsireni Kadammanja, while the injured children are aged 4, 8 and 7.
“It is reported that the deceased was at her usual business shelter of selling fried potatoes locally known as zigege while it was raining before lightening struck and injured Kadammanja and the three children who were seeking shelter at the place, which is situated under a tall standing tree,” explains Ndiwate.
The four were taken to Ntcheu District Hospital where Kadammanja was pronounced dead, while the children are still receiving treatment at the health facility.
Postmortem conducted by medical personnel from Ntcheu District Hospital certified that death was due to cardiogenic electric shock,” she said.
The deceased hailed from Gunde Village in the area of Traditional Authority Bvumbwe in Thyolo District.
