A Malawi Congress Party (MCP) diehard of Mvera in Dowa district Mr. Rodgers Kamphangala, has accused the MCP of using Dr. Jessie Kabwila –the party’s Spokesperson for a nonsense statement meddling into the affairs of the DPP that Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika is too old to stand in the elections.
Kamphangala has observed that it is none of MCP business to be concerned with Mutharika’s age but leaving the age limit to DPP members themselves to decide on the way forward on whether he should stand or not.
He said Mutharika has been speaking openly that he will contest in the elections to come on 16th September, 2025 asking the MCP what is there problem to be concerned up to the extent of saying that DPP is abusing Mutharika by forcing him to stand in the elections?
The MCP diehard has reminded the MCP that Kamuzu Banda stood in the 1994 elections when he was 98 years and at no time, UDF members insulted and castigated him for his decision to compete in the race for presidency.
He said Kabwila is receiving insults and castigations even some people are going deep for character assassination observing that she has become victim of MCP words using her as Spokesperson to speak nonsense thereby provoking not only DPP members but the opposition party members.
Kamphangala has advised Kabwila that if what she said was not coming from her mouth, she should offer her heartfelt apology to all Malawians that have been injured by her statement saying Malawians are good people, they will receive the apology.
“If those words were indeed coming from you not sent by the MCP, then, it is bad omen, even some members of the party including me are in shame, you are a woman of potential to the country and not to be reduced to nothing,” he said.
And writing in a response to Kabwila’s threats against the DPP and its leader Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika, the DPP has denied Kabwila’s allegations of exploitation of Mutharika saying Mutharika’s candidacy represents his unwavering dedication to serving the people of Malawi and the overwhelming support Malawians across the country are giving him.
“I t is the MCP and its leader President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera who should be held responsible for the numerous atrocities they continuously inflict upon the people of Malawi, their actions deserve to be brought to the attention of International Criminal and Human Rights for condemnation and justice,” reads the statement in part.
