University of Malawi economics students emerged the winners over Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR) students in a final debate organised by a consortium of OXFAM in Malawi, Economics Association of Malawi (ECAMA) and LUANAR in Lilongwe yesterday on a topic of whether Malawi should continue borrowing from foreign agencies
Four UNIMA students, Jatta Manoah, Enerstina Chiona, Nomsa Zgambo and Tracy Mwalilino outclassed LUANAR students with a marginal difference which saw them winning by 52.3% to 52.2%.
One of participants of the debate, Enestina Chiona, the third-year student has told CHANCO news that the victory is due to good preparation they had by doing research in different sub-topics related to the main topic of the debate
“We had to gather facts on how well public funds can be managed in Malawi and we got insight on what is actually happening on the ground concerning the economy of Malawi” Chiona said
Further, Chiona urged the entire UNIMA students` community to take such kind of debates seriously as they are vital in exposing students to ongoing developmental issues
