Facebook influencers are not above the law, Stop Spreading Lies

Facebook influencers are not above the law

Of late some Malawians just because they have more followers have created and turned themselves into semi-gods who can just wake up and start writing anything including spreading misleading state information.

These semi-gods have become so untouchables to the extent that they only think only their opinion matters.

These facebook influencers dont even listen or bothers to cross check the facts and can castigate Government and the Head of State will nilly.

Let it be known that all Malawians are accountable to Electronic Transactions and Cyber Security Act Chapter 74:02 which
Commenced on 1 June 2017.

This version of the Act was revised and consolidated in the Forth Revised Edition of the Laws of Malawi (L.R.O. 1/2015), by the Solicitor General and Secretary for Justice under the authority of the Revision of the Laws Act.

For the starters Parliament passed this law [33 of 2016; G.N. 25/2017] which was aimed at making provision for electronic transactions; for the establishment and functions of the Malawi Computer Emergency Response Team (MCERT) as well as to make provision for criminalizing offences related to computer systems and information communication technologies; and provide for investigation, collection and use of electronic evidence; and for matters connected therewith and incidental thereto.

This is best time to remind Malawians that they should not say or hide behind freedom of opinion to be spreading false statements.

Under the above cited law Investigators can arrest anybody found castigating State President or committing any cyber harassment.
