Speaker of Parliament Catherine Gotani Hara has challenged the newly elected Women Lawyers Association executive to remain vigilant in defending the rights of vulnerable women in the country.
Hara noted that the elderly continue being victimised over allegations of witchcraft. She said women lawyers need to bring to book those violating rights of the vulnerable.
The remarks were made at this year’s AGM which took place at Sunbird Hotel in Lilongwe where among others the new executive received the mantle of leadership.
Meanwhile, the WLA’s new Chairperson, Chisomo Nyemba, said the association will work tirelessly towards filling the gap created between the rich and the poor and to ensure that no one takes advantage of less privileged people in society.
The AGM was attended by prominent public figures including ACB Director, Martha Chizuma, Professor Ngeyi Kanyongolo and several legislators.
