Film producers are optimistic of reaping the benefits of their sweat if plans by the Malawi Communication Regulatory Authority (MACRA) of introducing professional short courses in filmmaking at MUBAS and UNIMA materialise.

Film Association of Malawi (FAMA) President, Gift Sukali, said this during the curriculum validation meeting MACRA organised for content producers, media, and academia in Blantyre.

MACRA is running a ten-year project to train film producers to supply local content to the country’s media industry, especially television.

MACRA’s Acting Director of Broadcasting Matilda Kanjeri said film producers will assist to have 60 percent of locally produced content beamed on local channels.

Dr Sydney Kamkuzi of UNIMA said they are ready to impart skills to local content producers to be more innovative and satisfy the needs of Malawians.
