The Central Region Division One League officially got underway on Sunday in Kasungu following a colourful launch ceremony that marked the beginning of a new era for football development in Malawi’s Central Region.

The opening fixture saw TN Stars battle to a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Manzo Chisomo Football Club, providing fans with an entertaining contest as the 2026 season got off to an exciting start.

The league’s launch was highlighted by the unveiling of GoJET Investment as the new title sponsor after the company signed a landmark three-year sponsorship agreement worth MK300 million, translating to MK100 million per season. Speaking during the launch ceremony, Central Region Football Association (CRFA) Chairperson Goodall Chinjoka said the association is determined to ensure that this year’s competition is played in a peaceful and violence-free environment.

Chinjoka emphasized that football should unite communities while creating opportunities for young players to develop their talent and pursue professional careers.

“We want this league to be known not only for competitive football but also for discipline, fair play and the discovery of talented players who can represent the region and the country,” he said.

According to Chitete, GoJET wants to help nurture talented footballers from rural communities by providing them with a competitive platform where they can showcase their abilities.

She noted that the company believes the Central Region Division One League has the potential to produce future stars capable of earning promotion to the National Division League and eventually featuring in the TNM Super League.

“Our investment is about creating opportunities for young footballers. We believe there is enormous talent in the Central Region, and this league provides the perfect platform to identify and develop that talent,” Chitete said.

The sponsorship has been widely welcomed by football stakeholders, who believe increased private sector investment is essential for the growth of the game in Malawi.

Football Association of Malawi (FAM) President Fleetwood Haiya described the partnership as a clear demonstration that transparency and good governance continue to attract corporate confidence into football.

Haiya congratulated both CRFA and GoJET Investment for reaching the sponsorship agreement, describing it as a significant milestone that will strengthen football structures and improve player development across the region.
