Former President Peter Mutharika has said he did not attend a meeting involving former heads of state which President Lazarus Chakwera arranged because he was not informed on the agenda and that the current government has not yet admitted of failing to solve woes that Malawians are facing.
Chakwera only met former leaders Joyce Banda and Bakili Muluzi where they reportedly tackled matters on how Malawi can mitigate effects of Cylone Freddy.
But Mutharika was not in sight according to images that Chakwera has shared on his official social media platforms.
Shadrick Namalomba, Spokesperson for Mutharika, has said the DPP leader would only attend such a meeting when Chakwera admits that he has failed to run the affairs of Malawi.
Meanwhile, George Phiri, a political expert has said while the meeting is timely, Mutharika who was invited has exercised his rights in his personal capacity.
Phiri has told MIJ Online that there is need for Chakwera to make such meetings routine for authorities to deliberate on critical issues affecting the nation to implement effective polices.
On his part, However, another commentator Wonderful Mkutche has described Mutharika’s absence as unfortunate.
Mkutche has said Mutharika’s absence is a clear indication that the solutions that the 82 year old gave are not genuine as the meeting was an important platform for him to discuss with the incumbent president issues of national interest.
