Director General of the Department of Immigration and Citizenship has told a joint parliamentary committee on Defense, Security and International relations that the institution has entered into a temporarily agreement with Tecno Brain to supply passport booklets inorder to address challenges that Malawians facing to access the travelling document.
Kalumo said the Malawian passport is the most expensive passport in the southern region of Africa but was quick to assure the house that government is working on strategies on how the country can offer cheap and affordable passport with the coming in of the new supplier.
He added that the institution is working on addressing the issue of first come first serve, while expressed concerns with the high levels of backlogging to access the passport copies
