Bvumbwe Police Sub-Station is keeping in custody Maxwell Banda,32, and his three accomplices on suspicion that they were trafficking 65 people to Rumphi from Thyolo on August 26,2024.

Sergeant Aubrey Singanyama, Public Relations Officer for Limbe Police Station confirmed the development to Our News Platform Mw.

He said on the said particular day, Police detectives at the Police formation received a tip from well wishers that Banda and his colleagues were trafficking the 65 people from surrounding villages to Rumphi for unknown reasons.

“Responding to the tip, the detectives mounted a snap roadblock at Bvumbwe Trading Centre and a City Tours and Travel Bus registration number BU 7217 carrying the victims was intercepted.

“Immediately, Banda and his colleagues were arrested and will appear before court soon,” he said.

The victims are 22 adult males, 17 adult females, 14 male children and 12 female children.

Maxwell Banda hails from Chitengu village in the area of senior chief Bvumbwe in Thyolo district.
