A local organization, Umunthu Plus, has announced that 440 people with eye problems in Nkhotakota District will receive free medical treatment through its Free Eye Glasses and Screening initiative. The program aims to address the growing number of individuals in the district struggling to access essential eye care services.
Promise Msampha, Programs Manager for Umunthu Plus, stated that the initiative was launched after observing the difficulties many people with eye conditions face in receiving treatment. “We realized that a lot of people here have challenges accessing eye care services, which is why we decided to bring this initiative to them,” Msampha said.
One of the beneficiaries, 44-year-old Fabiano Banda from Kombo Village in Traditional Authority Malengachanzi, expressed his gratitude after receiving a pair of eyeglasses. “This initiative has really helped me, and I thank Umunthu Plus for coming to our community,” Banda said.
The Free Eye Glasses and Screening initiative is supported by the South Africa-based foundation Masana wa Afrika and Crossroads Foundation from Hong Kong. Their contributions have made it possible for Umunthu Plus to offer much-needed support to those suffering from eye problems in the district, ensuring better access to eye care and improving the quality of life for hundreds of people.
