A tragic accident occurred in the early hours of Sunday, October 20, 2024, resulting in the death of No. B3852 Sgt. Dickson Wyson, aged 49, from Village Kaudzu, Traditional Authority Sitola, Machinga District. Sgt. Wyson, who was stationed at A Division in Lilongwe, was hit by an unknown motor vehicle at approximately 0400 hours while crossing Kamuzu Procession Road near Area 30 Main Gate.
According to the facts of the case, Sgt. Wyson was attempting to cross the road from the Petroda Filling Station side toward Area 30 when the unidentified vehicle struck him. Shockingly, the vehicle did not stop after the incident and fled the scene, leaving Sgt. Wyson gravely injured.
The impact of the collision caused Sgt. Wyson to sustain severe head injuries and multiple fractures across his body. Emergency services quickly transported him to Kamuzu Central Hospital, but despite receiving treatment, he tragically succumbed to his injuries.
Authorities are currently investigating the hit-and-run incident, urging any witnesses or individuals with information regarding the unknown vehicle to come forward and assist in the investigation.
Sgt. Wyson’s death is a devastating loss for his family, colleagues, and the community he served. He was a dedicated officer who committed his life to protecting the citizens of Malawi. Funeral arrangements and further details will be communicated in due course.
