Minister of Local Government, Unity, and Culture, Richard Chimwendo Banda, has issued a strong warning to community leaders, urging them to refrain from misappropriating free food and agricultural inputs intended for their subjects.

Speaking during the elevation ceremony of Traditional Authorities Ganya and Champiti to Senior Chief positions in Ntcheu district, Chimwendo emphasized that President Lazarus Chakwera prioritizes leaders who work hard and focus on development in their regions.

“President Chakwera promotes local leaders who prioritize the welfare of their communities. It is unacceptable for chiefs or any community leaders to steal or hoard resources meant to uplift the lives of their people,” Chimwendo warned.

He called on the chiefs to ensure proper checks and balances for government programs within their regions, urging them to remain transparent and accountable.

The ceremony marked the elevation of four traditional authorities, including Inkosi Njolomole, Inkosi Masasa, Inkosi Ganya, and Inkosi Champiti, to Senior Chief positions, a move made by President Chakwera on April 10, 2024.

In his remarks, Inkosi Yamakosi V praised President Chakwera for his commitment to development and encouraged fellow chiefs to stay dedicated to serving their communities with integrity.

The event was attended by various government officials, traditional leaders, and local community members, all in support of the newly elevated chiefs.
