Lilongwe, Malawi – Chief Resident Magistrate Roderick Michongwe has adjourned the highly anticipated court session involving the application for bail and further detention of the accused to 4 PM today. The adjournment comes after lengthy submissions from both the prosecution and defense teams earlier in the morning.
The prosecution argued for an extension of the accused’s detention, citing the need for more time to conclude investigations, while the defense strongly contested this, pushing for the immediate release of the accused on bail. They emphasized that the accused’s continued detention violates their constitutional rights, particularly the right to liberty.
Chief Resident Magistrate Michongwe, after carefully listening to both sides, decided to take a brief recess, allowing the court ample time to review the arguments and come up with a ruling that balances the interests of justice.
